5 BURNING QUESTIONS

Ms. Norton is the focus of this months “5 Burning Questions”  Interview

1. What is your favorite book/who is your favorite author?

I chose to share my favorite cookbook, "Cooking for Jeffrey," by Ina Garten. Ina is a chef who's recipes I find to be perfect every time. Of all of her cookbooks, this is my favorite because it is geared around recipes she enjoys to prepare for someone she loves. Food to me has always meant more than just the nourishment it provides. Much of my childhood was spent in the kitchen with my grandmother and mom and I love that Ina based this book around the memories and joy favorite recipes can bring.

2. What is your favorite technological innovation and why?

The Coffee Machine! I enjoy my daily cup of coffee (or two, or three) every day. Being a mom of young kids, I don't know how I'd get through each day with out my caffeine 🙂

3. If you had to teach one lesson outside of your content area what would it be and why would you choose it?

I would teach Health. I actually went to college for Health Education. The reason I chose to be a teacher was because of three amazing Health teachers I had in high school. I still keep in contact with them to this day. These were the teachers who really took the time to make a personal connection with me. They always found fun ways to make the content interesting and I think the information provided in Health is extremely important for students to learn.

4. What is one thing you have accomplished or one challenge that you have overcome?

Recently, I earned my second Master's Degree in Educational Leadership. I started the program weeks after my daughter was born. Having to balance two kids at home, a full time job and the course work was challenging. I am very fortunate to have a wonderful support system of family and friends at home and at work. I would have never been able to accomplish this without their help.

5. What is one of your favorite idioms or sayings?  Can you explain why you like it so much?

Find the good in every day.

This is a saying I try to live by and truly believe, if you keep a positive mindset and look for the good, you will find it. There is always something to be grateful for, even on the worst of days.

6. Bonus question:  If you had the choice between being raised by aliens, robots or dinosaurs which would you pick and why?

I would choose to be raised by robots but only ones who have been programed by my current parents. I have been blessed to have parents who support and believe in me and if these robots could transfer half of the parenting skills my parents have, I'd be lucky.
